FULL DESCRIPTION
This medieval chateau has hosted royalty over the years and has since been sympathetically renovated, retaining many original features. The original prison cells remain as well as three lookout towers which overlook the local church and village.
The main residential house, originally a house of the nobility, boasts 3 floors of habitable space, including an 84m² dining and living room which retains many of its original features; the stained glass windows provide an ambient light with stunning views over the gardens and village below. There is a fully fitted galley kitchen and a separate WC on this level. The floor is tiled with underfloor heating and there is a beautiful wooden staircase leading to the first floor gallery landing.
The next level contains two double bedrooms, a separate bathroom and separate WC. The master bedroom has an ensuite and separate dressing room. The top floor hosts a large light open living space of 65m² with original exposed beams and a partitioned bedroom area.
The ground floor level of the building is accessed via a spiral staircase down from the dining room and houses the utility areas which include an office, large storage room, launderette, shower room with sink and toilet. There is a separate laundry area.
Attached to the main house is the two storey old guards' house which has been converted into 5 gites, one being a self contained apartment, all with private facilities which at present are run as chambres d'hotes. On the ground floor there is currently a small museum displaying artifacts found within the chateau grounds. The museum retains its original stone floor, large stone fireplace and exposed ceiling beams.
The original stables have been converted into a 30 seat dining facility with bar and fully equipped restaurant, utility area and WC with outside terrace area to sit and enjoy the weather.
Above the dining room, there is a beauty room offering massage and beauty treatments.
In the well maintained grounds is a fully functioning well. The owners have also preserved the small prison which hosts two dungeons, as well as an underground chapel.
The two fully renovated towers provide a dramatic backdrop to the castle, now fully intact due to their recent renovation. Another tower may yet be renovated and will host a museum. A medieval garden is planned for the front area outside the chateau walls. A new shingle car park sits at the front of the chateau which can host approximately 12 cars.
Viewing is a must to fully appreciate this historic castle.

LOCAL AREA
Vienne is a department in the Aquitaine-Limousin-Poitou-Charentes region of France. The Vienne department is certainly most famous for its Futuroscope theme park but this is far from the area’s only top attraction. There is a lot of families to do here including Crocodile Planet in Civaux and the Monkey Valley of Romagne. Away from the big attractions there is world of art and history to enjoy in this area. Poitiers, the main city, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site which is home to the Abbey Church of Saint-Savin-sur-Gartempe. Not to missed here is the beautiful village of Angles sur L’Anglin with its prehistoric rock carvings known as Witches Rock.
